Romans 8:2-3a (Aramaic)
“For the law of the Spirit of life that is in Jesus Christ has freed you from the law of sin and death.
For because the law was weak by way of the frailty of the flesh . . .”
Jesus Christ came to free you and me of the constant cycling between sin and righteousness. We know how He legally did this. He suffered and died for us on the cross to become our perfect and one-time blood sacrifice, fulfilling and completing the law once and for all.
What were some of the other amazing effects of all this?
He replaced law-dependence with friendship-relationship. By giving us the connecting link of the Holy Spirit, Jesus created relationship with us on a deeply personal level, "that they may be one as we are. . ." (John 17:11, 21-23).
Without communications, relationships dwindle. But now with the ability to hear His rhema speaking in our spirit, He can write His words on the fleshly tables of our hearts. We can dialogue! This is a key feature of the new covenant.
What behaviors the law failed to externally motivate, Christ through the Holy Spirit internally motivates as we fall more and more in love with Him.
Becoming sheep who hear The Master's voice is often a process. Learning to live by every word (rhema) that proceeds (He streams live to you!) out of the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4; Deuteronomy 8:3) is the greatest of pursuits. How rich is the reward when we press in to choose one thing that is needful, "that good part" as Mary did, the secret place of His presence.

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.”
Hallelujah! May we ever press in to hear and obey God's still small voice. May we set aside our busyness to enter His rest, the place beside the still waters where He will restore our soul.
